Speculation continues as to the reasons behind the raid on the Trump family home Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
On August 8 the FBI raided the home of the former president, an event that has never happened in the history of the United States.
The Aug. 8 search was allowed by a warrant that has recently become unsealed. Many elected Republicans who support Trump have suggested a political motivation, the White House said President Biden was unaware of the search beforehand.
Biden’s lack of knowledge is under question since the search of a former president is unprecedented.
Multiple news reports have revealed the search was executed in connection with allegedly classified documents reportedly allegedly taken from Trump’s White House without authorization.
Former President Trump has stated that he himself declassified the documents before leaving the Oval Office.
Not only that, but Trump has also stated that the FBI and DOJ were aware of the documents, had visited his house, seen the boxes, and only requested another lock on the area where the documents were stored.
Trump complied with their request and all seemed well.
The FBI also reportedly took the former president’s passports for no apparent reason, and Trump has demanded that they hand those back over to him.
The FBI and Justice Department have not explicitly indicated Trump is the focus of a criminal investigation in the matter and have said little about the probe publicly.
American and international dignitaries have been shocked that such a search would be undertaken on the home of a former U.S. president.
Some who are outraged have taken to social media to vent their indignation.
The incident has also led to an increase in threats to federal law enforcement in recent days and inspired Attorney General Merrick Garland, in rare public remarks, to push back on his department’s critics in defense.
Trump, who has repeatedly posted about the questionable events FBI following the search, has questioned both the FBI and DOJ in transparent media posts saying the “temperature has to be brought down in the country,” hours after Steve Doocy, another Fox News host, implored the president to do so on air Monday morning.
All are speculating what is behind the search effort, and why this would happen now, so close to the midterm elections when Trump has had these same documents in his possession for quite some time.
Republican lawmakers held a press conference regarding the issue last Friday.
During the search, the FBI told the Trump family to disengage the CCTV home surveillance cameras as the agents went through the house.
Eric Trump related that that request was refused, and now the family has in their possession the footage that cameras were able to capture during the search.
Trump has not released that footage, but Eric Trump has stated that the footage will be released “at the right time.”
The media is full of comments on the situation, and on Fox News host Tucker Carlson has his own angle on the goings on.
Carlson also praised Trump’s call for calm on Monday.
“You can feel it, even Donald Trump feels it. Maybe for the first time in his life, Donald Trump seems sincerely interested in lowering the temperature, not only for his own stake, but for the country’s,” Carlson said. “He’s right. It’s not good. This could get very bad, very fast.”
Carlson’s comments are his first since the search warrant was executed a week ago, sparking a firestorm of speculation and political backlash from the former president’s defenders, although he made light of the search immediately following the raid, saying that the possible theft of nuclear documents “pales in comparison” with Hunter Biden’s possible use of his father’s Netflix password.”
The New Yorker wrote that “Carlson had demanded that AG Garland drop the investigation into Trump’s documents and probe Hunter Biden’s possible use of an ill-gotten Netflix password ‘immediately,’” highlighting the whole senseless attempt to through suspicion on former President Trump.
Carlson is predicting the result of the hoopla surrounding the events, and he thinks it is obvious.
Carlson predicted former President Trump will be indicted following a search at his Florida residence last week carried out by the FBI in connection with an investigation into classified information reportedly taken from the White House, The Hill reported.
“There’s nothing to see here, that’s the line,” Carlson said on his show Monday, naming a number of elected Republicans who he predicted will “say the same thing when the Biden Justice Department or some other state agency under their influence finally does what you know they’re going to do, and that’s indict Donald Trump.”
“Obviously they’re going to do that,” Carlson continued, stating his speculated reason for the raid. “Who knows how maybe they’ll produce.”
