Trump Says “Health Insurance For Everybody” In America

Speaking about health insurance with The Washington Post on Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump said that his healthcare plan is going to have “lower numbers, much lower deductibles,” and, “insurance for everybody.”

The mainstream press has been critical of any Republican health insurance plan even before any plan has been presented. They also assumed that a detailed plan to repeal and replace ‘Obamacare’ would appear instantaneously with the new congress.  Of course that is an unrealistic expectation but it gives them another excuse to take shots at Trump.

Trump said,”We’re going to have insurance for everybody.”  “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.” The “circles” that Mr. Trump is no doubt referring to is the mainstream media who will be relentless in attempting to poke holes in any plan, let alone one that they haven’t seen.
President-elect indicated that his plan was “very much formulated down to the final strokes .” as he tried to preemptively diffuse any of the usual criticism from the press.

“We haven’t put it in quite yet but we’re going to be doing it soon,” said Trump to the Washington Post. He went on to explain that he thought that it would be more appropriate to wait until Rep. Tom Price to be confirmed as the secretary of health and human services.

Republicans did begin the process of repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) in the first weeks of January but have come under attack from the press for  not announcing publicly what the replacement plan would be.  They seemed certain that any Trump plan would not allow coverage for the poor. Trump ran on the campaign promise that he would repeal and replace Obamacare, but because there were some popular parts of ObamaCare that he planned to keep, he was accused of softening his plan. But Trump has always stated that he would never allow anybody, even the poor, to go without coverage.

Trump also insisted that getting approval for the new health insurance plan from Democrats wouldn’t be a problem; “I think we will get approval. I won’t tell you how, but we will get approval,” Trump said.
