Former President Trump is doubling down on his commitment to stay in the 2024 presidential race despite facing mounting legal challenges, claiming there is no situation that would lead him to drop out of the race.
Trump was recently indicted on 37 felony charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents. The 49-page indictment, which was unsealed by the Department of Justice, includes allegations such as corruptly concealing records and documents, willfully retaining documents related to national defense, conspiracy to obstruct justice and making false statements.
In the face of Trump’s recent federal indictment, the former president indicated to Roger Stone, host of “The Roger Stone Show,” on a recent episode that there is no foreseeable situation that will result in him dropping out of the race.
Asked whether there are any circumstances that Trump could see himself dropping out of the 2024 presidential election, Trump said, “No. None whatsoever.”
“No, I see no case in which I would do that,” the former president added. “I just wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t do it. I had opportunities in 2016 to do it. And I didn’t do it.”
Trump’s response to Roger Stone mirrors his previous response to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson following his indictment by Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg in April. Bragg’s indictment of Trump marked the first time a former president had faced criminal charges.
When Trump was asked by Carlson whether he would drop out due to his legal battles, Trump said, “No, I’d never drop out — it’s not my thing. I wouldn’t do it.”
Despite Trump’s recent indictment, the former president continues to dominate polls in the Republican presidential primary race. The latest Morning Consult poll, which was conducted after the Justice Department’s indictment, shows Trump with 59% of the vote, while his closest challenger, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) is only polling at 19% of the vote. All other Republican presidential candidates remain in the single digits in the polls.
