Nearly a year after Gabby Petito’s interaction with Moab Police, her family files a $50 million wrongful death suit. Lawyers for the family outlined the plans Monday and said they are suing the Moab Utah Police for negligence of the law and how to enforce it. They said their goal is to hold government entities accountable and raise awareness of intimate partner violence and its dangers. Gabby first interacted with Moab Police on August 12, 2020 when they responded to a domestic dispute call.
Authorities confirmed the death of the suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Colorado deputy. John Paz, 33, was found dead Monday, but authorities have not released details surrounding his death. He’s accused of shooting and killing deputy Andrew Peery on Sunday night as Peery along with several other deputies responded to a shooting at a home near Colorado Springs. Officials said when deputies arrived on the scene they were immediately met with gun fire.
A new report has shed light on how cartels are making billions of dollars a year smuggling migrants across the southern border. According to the New York Times report Monday, cartels are earning an estimated $13 billion annually from the illicit practice.
The Federal Reserve has imposed another big interest rate hike in an effort to tackle runaway inflation. Chairman Jerome Powell announced Wednesday, the Central Bank is raising rates by an additional three-quarters of a percentage point. Authorities are investigating a shooting which prompted evacuations at Dallas Love Field Airport. The FAA ordered a ground stop at the airport shortly after 11 a.m. local time due to the active shooter situation. Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia said 37-year-old Portia Odufuwa began firing a handgun and a police officer engaged the suspect. He claimed that the woman entered the airport and went into a restroom to change clothes. Garcia expressed that the woman exited the restroom wearing a hoody and opened fire. Most of the shots appeared to be directed toward the ceiling.
Two parents and their six-year-old daughter were fatally shot at a state park in Iowa. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to reports of a triple homicide on Friday and located the bodies of the victims at the Moquoketa Caves Campground.
A Texas police officer is expected to survive after being shot in the face. 29-year-old Missouri City Police Officer Crystal Sepulveda is expected to make a full recovery after she was shot following a car chase Saturday.
