Family of Gabby Petito file $50M wrongful death suit against Utah Police
Nearly a year after Gabby Petito’s interaction with Moab Police, her family files a $50 million wrongful death suit. Lawyers for the family outlined the plans Monday and said they are suing the Moab Utah Police for negligence of the law and how to enforce it. They said their goal is to hold government entities accountable and raise awareness of intimate partner violence and its dangers. Gabby first interacted with Moab Police on August 12, 2020 when they responded to a domestic dispute call.
Authorities confirmed the death of the suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Colorado deputy. John Paz, 33, was found dead Monday, but authorities have not released details surrounding his death. He’s accused of shooting and killing deputy Andrew Peery on Sunday night as Peery along with several other deputies responded to a shooting at a home near Colorado Springs. Officials said when deputies arrived on the scene they were immediately met with gun fire.
The driver in connection with a fiery crash which left six people dead and several others injured in Los Angeles is expected to face multiple charges. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office could announce formal charges against 37-year-old Nicole Linton as early as Monday.
A school district in North Carolina is making strides to ensure the safety of their students. The Madison County School District said it will begin storing AR-15 rifles in emergency safes at five of their schools.
During a press conference on Friday, Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) appointed a new judge to the Florida Supreme Court. DeSantis announced the appointment of Judge Renatha Francis.
Pinal County officials in Arizona are taking heat for major errors in this week’s primary election. The county fired its elections director, David Frisk, after a series of debacles left voters outraged. Frisk was let go on Thursday and replaced by Pinal County Recorder Virginia Ross.
