According to Steve Bannon, a former counselor to President Donald Trump known for his blunt approach, he anticipates that the MAGA movement will transcend President Trump’s third presidential campaign and have a lasting impact on the contemporary Republican Party.
During an interview on Showtime’s “The Circus” program, Bannon expressed his belief that the factions opposing President Trump would eventually regret the absence of his leadership within the Republican Party.
As stated by Bannon, “President Trump is a moderate in our movement. You’re going to pine in future years that you wish Donald Trump was around.”
According to Bannon, the most significant division within the GOP lies between establishment elites and supporters of President Trump who assert that President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election was unjust.
“One of the litmus tests is… not just President Trump, but also particularly the stealing of the 2020 election. That is a fundamental tenant of this movement. By the way, they made it all about Trump. This movement is ascendant and is going to go on long after Donald Trump. It’s only going to get more powerful and broader.”
Following the conclusion of the Showtime episode, Bannon and Kari Lake engaged in a discussion on his “War Room” show, during which they derided Tim Miller, an individual who openly identifies as a Never Trumper, for his attire, likening it to that of a 13-year-old. In her analysis, Lake expressed that her interview with Miller may have been conducted more effectively had he posed “honest questions” rather than engaging in tactics aimed at provoking her to denounce other Republicans or express criticism towards President Trump.

The enduring interest of the media in Bannon persists even after his essential role as a GOP strategist in propelling President Trump to victory over his rivals in the 2016 presidential election and securing his position in the White House.
In recent months, he has attracted significant media attention due to his public demand for the resignation of Ronna McDaniel, the Chair of the Republican National Committee, as well as his derisive critique of the congressional testimony provided by former FBI Director James Comey, characterizing it as “performative.”
Bannon became the subject of an op-ed authored by Hunter Biden, wherein he accused Bannon of unjustly defaming him throughout his public battle with addiction. The op-ed article did not provide any discussion of the individual’s pending plea agreement for charges related to taxation and firearms.
As President Trump maintains a significant lead in the GOP presidential polls, Bannon is poised to assume a crucial position in amplifying the Republican frontrunner’s message to conservative constituencies. These audiences will have the opportunity to express their preferences for the GOP nominee through the Iowa caucus, scheduled for January 15th, 2024.
In August, Bannon offered some sobering details regarding former President Donald Trump’s 3rd presidential campaign and the challenges he will face in 2024.
The former president would witness “nothing but a war” in the 2024 general election, according to Bannon, who also prophesied “political warfare” over the coming years during a section of his “War Room” podcast. Bannon was Trump’s top White House advisor at one point.
“Get Prepared, we got a fight ahead of us,” Bannon warned. “There’s still the primary, the RNC and the donors are gonna try and [block] Trump, so we gotta get through that. The general election and I don’t have to believe Biden will be the nominee, I think they’ll trade him out, but we’ve got nothing but a war in the general election. We’ve got six to eight years ahead of us of absolute political warfare.”
As the GOP race is beginning to heat up, Bannon also lately grabbed headlines when he revealed some intriguing details regarding Trump’s likely choice for running mate.
On the “War Room” show, Bannon claimed to be an avid backer of Arizona Republican Kari Lake and said he would like her on Trump’s ticket. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., also a presidential candidate on the Democrat side but who is popular with conservatives and independents, may be Trump’s VP choice if Lake declines, according to Bannon.
Bannon noted that during a recent Q&A session, a question regarding Kennedy, Jr. was posed.
“Somebody asked about Robert F. Kennedy and the great speech at Hillsdale, his opening speech, and what did I think about his prospects,” Bannon said.
“And I said, ‘Look, I’m a Kari Lake person, but if Kari Lake becomes governor, as she should if this court case, or if not, she runs for the Senate. If she’s not available to be Trump’s VP that Bobby Kennedy would be, I think, an excellent choice for President Trump to consider. There was a standing ovation and this was a very hardcore MAGA war room posse crowd,” according to Bannon.
“I think that that is a signal to the political elites in this country that something very different is going on. And I thought it was quite extraordinary. Robert Kennedy Jr. has huge support for the American populist movement. Look for the GOP elites to start their attacks on Bobby any day now,” said Bannon.
