President Trump is touting his administration’s move to stop granting sanction waivers to countries still making oil deals with Iran.
On Twitter Monday, the president said Saudi Arabia and others in OPEC will more than make up the oil flow difference in our now full sanctions on Iranian oil.” He added, “Iran is being given very bad advice by John Kerry and people who helped him lead the U.S. into the very bad Iran Nuclear Deal.”
President Trump then speculated if Kerry violated the Logan Act. This law criminalizes any negotiations that are made by unauthorized personnel with foreign governments, who are in dispute with the U.S.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently announced the maximum pressure measure, and said doing business with Iran is not worth it.

“Today, I’m announcing that we will no longer grant any exemptions — we are going to zero across the board. We will continue to enforce sanctions and monitor compliance. Any nation or entity interacting with Iran should do its diligence in err on the side of caution. The risk are simply not going to be worth the benefits.”

Pompeo also said nations face a May 2nd deadline to get their affairs in order before they get penalized.
