May take several weeks for U.S. to respond to Khashoggi situation, gathering evidence

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said it could be several weeks before the U.S. responds to the killing of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi.

According to reports, Pompeo told a Saint Louis radio station the U.S. is still in the process of gathering evidence. As a result, the U.S. is holding off on implementing sanctions against the individuals responsible — at least for now.

The U.S. has already revoked the visas of the men allegedly responsible for the killing of The Washington Post columnist.

It remains unknown if the Saudi royal family was involved in the operation, but earlier this month President Trump said the U.S. is determined to get to the bottom of Khashoggi’s death.

“We are going to leave nothing uncovered,” stated President Trump. “With that being said, the king firmly denied any knowledge of it…it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers, who knows, we are going to try getting to the bottom of it very soon, but his was a flat denial.”

The president has since said he is not satisfied with the Saudi Arabian government’s explanation of the journalist’s death.
