The National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) reported on Friday that 101 officers have been shot in 2022 so far. 17 of those officers were killed by gunfire, and there were an additional 19 ambush-style attacks on police. These attacks have resulted in 32 officers injured and five fatalities.
Additionally, FOP noted that the number of officers shot in the line of duty has increased by 63 percent compared to the same time in 2020. Two years ago, 312 officers were shot, and 47 were killed in the line of duty.
According to Breitbart, FOP President Patrick Yoes stated, “Last year was one of the most dangerous years for law enforcement, with more officers shot in the line of duty since the National Fraternal Order of Police began recording this data.”
Further, the FOP wrote on Twitter, “These historic numbers are horrific and are an absolute stain on our society. When the vast majority of media elites decide that this issue isn’t worth covering, it speaks volumes as to where our society is heading.” They added, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”
Sadly, the uptick in officer deaths and injuries seems to be continuing as 2022 continues.
In January, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) released a report that revealed officer deaths jumped 55 percent in 2021. They also presented data that cited 58 traffic-related deaths and 301 Covid-related fatalities related to outbreaks.
