Next year’s refugee cap, to be set by President Trump, according to the State Dept.

The State Department is giving more detail about the proposed refugee cap, saying the number may change as negotiations continue.

On Tuesday, spokeswoman Heather Nauert said its up to the president to approve limiting the number of foreign nationals seeking refugee status at 30,000 for the next fiscal year.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the proposal earlier this week, which represents a 33-percent drop from last year’s record low of 45,000 refugees.

Nauert went on to stress America’s commitment to humanitarian efforts, but added its time for other countries to start doing their part.

“Our pockets are not unlimited, we do not have the ability to give any amount of money that some may view that the United States government should give,” she stated. “One of the things that this government has asked other countries to do is step up and do more.”

The proposal is now headed to Congress for review before going to the White House for President Trump’s final approval.
