The recently appointed House Speaker, Mike Johnson, provided insight into his “worldview” during a public address on Thursday evening, in response to inquiries regarding alleged homophobic remarks attributed to him in previous instances.
Following a period of three weeks characterized by internal disagreements within the Republican party, Johnson emerged as the elected speaker on Wednesday. The individual in question, who has served as a member of Congress since 2016, has predominantly maintained a low profile until the present week.
During an interview conducted by Sean Hannity on Fox News, the presenter inquired Johnson in the Capitol regarding his previous statements, which have garnered attention and support from various individuals aligned with left-leaning ideologies.
“You once worked for the Alliance Defense Fund – a Christian advocacy group,” Hannity said. “And comments you made both in writing and advocacy for this group about homosexuality, calling it sinful destructive, and not supporting gay marriage, quote, ‘no clear right to sodomy in the Constitution.’ You have been getting hammered on this. And I wanna ask you about it. I wanna know exactly, you know, where you stand. Some of these comments were 15 years ago.”
“I don’t even remember some of them,” Johnson replied. “I was a litigator that was called upon to defend the state marriage amendments. If you remember back in the early 2000s, I think there [were] over 35 states, somewhere in that number, that the people went to the ballot in their respective states and they amended their state constitutions to say marriage is one man and one woman. Well, I was a religious liberty defense and was called to defend those cases in the courts.”
When confronted about alleged homophobic remarks he had made in the past on Thursday night, newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson gave the American people a peek inside his “worldview.”
On Wednesday, following three weeks of Republican backbiting, Johnson was chosen as speaker. The unknown backbencher has been a member of Congress since 2016, but until this week, he has mainly remained out of the public eye.
Fox News host Sean Hannity questioned Johnson at the Capitol over his earlier remarks, which are being promoted by many on the Left.
“That’s your worldview,” Hannity asked, to which Johnson replied, “That’s my worldview.”

Former President Donald Trump declared his support for Johnson earlier this week.
“I am not going to make an Endorsement in this race, because I COULD NEVER GO AGAINST ANY OF THESE FINE AND VERY TALENTED MEN, all of whom have supported me, in both mind and spirit, from the very beginning of our GREAT 2016 Victory,” Trump posted to Truth Social Wednesday morning. “My strong SUGGESTION is to go with the leading candidate, Mike Johnson.”
During the impeachment proceedings, Johnson—a strong ally of President Trump—spoke out in favor of the former leader and contested the results of the 2020 election.
Johnson concurred later in the interview that the majority of people are aware of and see President Joe Biden’s cognitive impairment.
Johnson concluded: “A strong America is good for the whole world and we have to project strength. Reagan used to remind us all the time, it’s peace through strength. If America shows weakness it invites aggression by our adversaries and that’s what you’re seeing around the world and that’s an important thing to remember and also Sean also remember, I’ve been watching your show since as long as I can remember, all 25 years?”
