Former President Donald Trump was indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and a student jury last week on business-related allegations that are now being kept confidential since they are still under seal. What is known is that since Trump’s election, Bragg has been looking into payments made to a porn star before the 2016 presidential election.
Donald Trump’s counsel and the district attorney of Manhattan both acknowledged on Thursday that the former president had been charged by a grand jury. The probe, according to Trump, is a “witch hunt” akin to others that have failed to bring charges against the former president, and he has frequently claimed that he has broken no laws.
It is entirely unheard of for a former president, much less one who is campaigning for office, to face accusations, particularly when those accusations relate to a long-ago incident that appeared to be resolved. Trump has frequently posted about the circumstance:
“I think Joe Biden will suffer a major setback as a result of this Witch Hunt. The American public is fully aware of what the radical left Democrats are up to in this situation. Everyone is aware of it. In order to remove every single one of these corrupt Democrats from government and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, our Movement and Party, who are strong and united, will first beat Alvin Bragg, then Joe Biden.
Trump indicated earlier that his children who had served on his team during his last administration would be stepping aside to pursue other interests. Trump has been quietly rebuilding his staff since last year in anticipation for launching his candidacy for a return to the White House.
Hence, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Ivanka Trump has largely been mute throughout the recent uproar over the allegations. Ivanka, however, broke her quiet on the issue on social media with a brief message, according to Business Insider.
The former first daughter took to an Instagram story on Friday morning, sharing a short response to Donald Trump’s indictment by a Manhattan grand jury — the first time a former president has faced criminal charges. In the post, Ivanka says she is “pained” for both her father and country, adding: “I appreciate the voices across the political spectrum expressing support and concern.”
Business Insider reported, “Ivanka Trump’s short statement shouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise. People magazine reported that Ivanka was keeping her distance from her father and his campaign. Sources told the magazine that Ivanka wasn’t going to advise her father legally or politically.”
Ivanka is also reportedly “through with politics” as she has previously stated that she is focusing on her family, after having given time since 2016 to advise and work with her father, BI said.
A source told the Washington Post on Friday that she just wants a “normal life”. The source stated, “Ivanka hated all the criticism and the threats, and was unhappy about how a lot of their friends turned their back on them. She feels its bad for her family, and negative in general in her circle of friends. She wants as normal a like as she can arrange for her and her family…she’s unhappy about becoming a political target.”
Even though she has stated she no future plans to “be involved with politics at all, on Friday Ivanka posted regarding the charges and indictment and in support of her father.
Ivanka’s post stated, “I love my father and I love my country. Today, I am pained for both. I appreciate the voices across the political spectrum expressing support and concern.”
Her husband, Jared Kushner, who is also a former advisor to President Trump, spoke about the matter at a Florida summit. Kushner pointed out what would drive opponents to go to such lengths to try and silence Trump:
“As an American, its very troubling to me to see the leader of the opposition party be indicted, and I think that that shows, obviously, the fear that the Democrats have of Trump and the political strength that he has. Its been hard to watch the opponents of him politicly break every norm over the last years to try to get him.”
Kushner drew comparisons to the previous attacks on the former president, saying “I’ve been by him in a lot of these instances, and its only made him stronger and his resolve to take on big challenges to fight for change, to fight for the American people has only gotten stronger.”
The former president’s son, Donald Trump, Jr. has been solidly behind his father the whole way. He posted pointedly this weekend, “President Trump won’t back down. He’s going to keep fighting to save America #MAGA.”
Trump himself posted Saturday, “I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support you have given me against this assault on our Nation.”
