Will Trump Be America’s Toughest President?
In 2005 Sheriff Joe Arpaio ran for the Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona as an advocate of enforcing the illegal immigration laws of the United States of America. His stance on illegal alien enforcement was controversial at the time. The media did their best to discredit him and big money was spent to defeat him. Yet his poll numbers climbed. Does that sound familiar? By the way – Joe Arpaio won the election handily.
That was 15 years ago. Joe Arpaio has not lost an election since. He has become, ‘America’s toughest sheriff’. This in spite of the fact that Arizona, and especially Maricopa County, has one of the largest Hispanic and illegal Mexican populations in the country. His stance on illegals has never wavered. Even in the face protests, state and federal suits and negative media spin and well funded opposition, he has remained outspoken about enforcing the law of the land. And through it all, his popularity among voters has remained strong. And Donald Trump has been (apparently) paying attention.
It sure looks like Donald Trump is modeling his campaign, either unconsciously or by design, after the Joe Arpaio model. And it will work. It will work because Americans are sick of what’s happened to our country as a result of being overrun by millions of illegal Mexicans. Black Americans are sick of it. White Americans are sick of it. And yes, Hispanic Americans are sick of it. The entire nature of our country is changing – on many many levels – and in the minds of the voting population, not for the better. Low wages, loss of jobs, abuse of government services, higher crime, culture modification and more are attributed to the what can only be called an invasion of illegals from Mexico and other countries. That’s what the voters believe and that’s an issue that they can get behind. Just like the voters in Arizona did with Joe Arpaio.
While running for President of the United States is a lot more complicated than running for sheriff, and there are many issues to consider, Donald Trump has hit on one that can fire up enough emotion in voters to carry him across the finish line. And knowing Joe Arpaio, he will be taking some of the credit.
