Those Republicans who are loyal to both former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) may face a difficult decision about their support in the event that a Republican presidential primary race between the two candidates materializes. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a steadfast supporter of both Trump and DeSantis, is a prime example of this.
The anchor of Newsmax TV’s “The Balance,” Eric Bolling, questioned the fourth-term Florida congressman on his support during an appearance at CPAC in National Harbor, MD.
Gaetz told Bolling that he agreed with both, but that his preference for the time being would be four years under Trump, followed by eight under DeSantis.
I back President Trump,” he declared. “Ron DeSantis and I have worked closely together. I put a lot of effort into getting Ron DeSantis elected governor, and I want him to serve as Florida’s governor for the whole eight years.
Gaetz continued, “If we do it well, we’ll get the best of both worlds. “In his second term, Donald Trump will serve as president for four years. Ron DeSantis’ presidency might then follow. Nonetheless, I believe that Trump has the power to seize the day, and this crowd appears to be prepared for the MAGA movement.
