Steve Bannon told his War Room audience that US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is working on being named the running mate- as Vice President- on a Presidential ticket with Donald J. Trump in his 2024 bid to retake the Oval Office.
“This is no shrinking violet, she’s ambitious — she’s not shy about that, nor should she be. … She sees herself on the short list for Trump’s VP,” Bannon told NBC News.
When Greene “looks in the mirror, she sees a potential president smiling back,” Bannon added.
An unnamed source in the NBC News piece concurred that Greene’s “whole vision” is to snag the second-in-command slot on Trump’s ticket.
The former president announced his 2024 bid just after the midterm elections in November but has had a relatively quiet campaign in the weeks since.
An ardent Trump ally, Greene endorsed Trump even before his official launch.
The Daily Mail picked up on Bannon’s comments, reporting about MTG’s actions in the latest GOP drama for leadership of the Party on Capital Hill:
She has served as a Donald Trump intermediary on the House floor during Kevin McCarthy’s speakership battle, and now Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks she could be his presidential running mate.
“The second-term lawmaker from Georgia is seeking to run alongside Trump as he seeks to reclaim the White House four years after refusing to concede, skipping the inauguration claiming fraud, and telling supporters to ‘fight like hell’ the day of the Capitol events,” NBC reported.
Green has carried the MAGA banner inside Congress and kept lines open to the GOP base, with appearances on former chief White House strategist Steve Bannon’s podcast.”
‘This is no shrinking violet, she’s ambitious — she’s not shy about that, nor should she be,’ Bannon said. ‘She sees herself on the short list for Trump’s VP. Paraphrasing Cokie Roberts
The news comes as Democrats have already begun mocking Trump as McCarthy’s ‘master at Mar-a-Lago.’
Being on the presidential ticket and a heartbeat away from the presidency would be a rapid rise for Green, who just months ago found herself kicked off congressional committees and serving in the minority.
Now, she serves on the House Oversight and Accountability and Homeland Security panels, after sitting down with now-Speaker Kevin McCarthy and helping to line up support for him among GOP ‘rebels’ who protested him, which will allow her to take part in investigations of the Biden administration. She was booted off committees by House Democrats last Congress; they claimed because it was over her past ‘inflammatory remarks’.
The Daily Mail went on with more about MTG:
“She has been a lightning rod for her entire tenure in Congress. Greene said last month that if she had organized January 6, we would have won’ and ‘it would’ve been armed.’
Then, following complaints, she said: ‘The White House needs to learn how sarcasm works. My comments were making fun of Joe Biden and the Democrats.’
An image of her working the House floor was one of the most memorable of McCarthy’s epic 15-vote battle to become speaker. She was trying to hand her phone to Rep.-elect Matt Rosendale (R-MT), with Trump on the line. Rosendale, who was a McCarthy holdout, snapped at her for putting him in an uncomfortable position.
She was also photographed seated next to Republican serial fabulist Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.).”
In June MTG apologized for comparing Capitol mask mandates to the Holocaust. The following month, she cemented ties with Trump during a visit to his Bedminster golf course for the Saudi-funded LIV Golf tournament.
Bannon described her move toward McCarthy as a ‘power move.’
‘She was prepared to take the intense heat/hatred short-term for the long-term goal of being a player,’ he told NBC.
Although they were on opposite sides in the McCarthy battle, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz tweeted out praise for Greene after the story broke.
Greene ‘would be an outstanding VP,’ he wrote. ‘She should absolutely be considered.’ Greene had a bitter clash with Gaetz ally Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) during the speakership battle.
Business Insider reported on Bannon’s comments and added:
Greene, who handily won her reelection last year by more than 30 percentage points, has long been a staunch supporter of Trump. The two have appeared at rallies together and heaped praise on each other. The congresswoman has described Trump as her “favorite president, whom she rang up during the House speaker vote, captured in a high-profile photograph with his phone contact saved as “DT.”
Trump in November became the first person of a major party to launch a 2024 presidential bid. But with 650 days until the election, he’s not yet made any big announcements on his campaign. A spokesperson for Trump did not immediately return Insider’s request for comment.
Some names that have been reportedly floated as Trump’s potential VP picks include his former press secretary and now-Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina.
