Authorities say they’re still working to determine a motive behind a deadly shooting at a southern California bar earlier this month, where 12 people and the gunman died.
Investigators said there’s no evidence the gunman, a former marine, was radicalized or was targeting someone he knew at the bar, they said during a press conference today.
Law enforcement added the number of victims could have been significantly higher based on the amount of ammunition he was carrying.
According to Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub, the shooter was carrying a total of “more than 50 rounds during” the mass shooting, and had “seven high-capacity 30-round magazines in his possession,” five of which he reports were still “fully-loaded.”
Sheriff’s Sergeant Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran of the force, was among those killed when he responded to the shooting.
The FBI is said to be continuing its analysis of evidence from the gunman’s home to help determine a motive.
