Trump Accuses Google Of Abusive Censoring And Vows Something Must Be Done

Google is facing new accusations of censorship — this time from President Trump –following a report revealing the site may be favoring coverage from left-wing news organizations.

The president slammed the tech giant for “rigging” search results to suppress conservative voices.

In a tweet Tuesday, the president said search results for “Trump News” only return negative stories on the administration by the left-wing media.

The president accused the site of “shutting out fair conservative media” in an effort to paint the GOP in a negative light.

He specifically called out CNN as a repeat offender, calling it a “very serious situation.”

This comes after a recent report showed Google may be favoring left-leaning outlets over conservative ones in the rankings on their search engine.

“Every one of us is sort of like a newspaper…you have Twitter, you have whatever you have, Facebook, but everyone you can’t have censorship. You can’t pick one person and say: well we don’t like what he’s saying he’s out.” — President Donald Trump on online censorship

Newly published findings from PJ Media allege Google searches under the ‘news tab’ containing the key-word ‘Trump’ returned negative stories on the administration by the left-wing media 96-percent of the time.

The company reportedly determined the bias of the publications by using a partisan spectrum from the Sharyl Attkisson’s media bias chart. Using the spectrum, the media group found stories by CNN appeared the most frequently in Google searches, followed by The Washington Post and NBC.

This comes after Google announced last year they would alter their search engine to combat fake news.

This is far from the first time the site has been called out for censoring conservative viewpoints.

In March of this year, the online giant narrowly avoided a lawsuit after a federal judge dismissed a suit by Prager University claiming the site placed age restrictions on videos reporting on conservative politics in an effort to censor the GOP.

For now — the president has suggested he may address the issue in the near future.
