Two reporters were caught in a hot mic video on Tuesday making jokes about former President Donald Trump being assassinated on his way to the federal courthouse for a Circuit Court of Appeals hearing in Washington, D.C.
As the media was waiting for the former president’s motorcade to pass through on its way to the E. Barrett Prettyman U.S. Courthouse, two unidentified male journalists began commenting on the difficulty of getting a good view of the leading 2024 GOP presidential candidate. According to The New York Post, the conversation between the two journalists was heard on The Associated Press’s live feed.
In a video shared by Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics, on X, formerly Twitter, one of the unidentified reporters can be heard saying, “You know what the worst part is? Even if he has his window open and he’s hanging out of it, he will be on the other side of the street.”
The second unidentified reporter responded, saying, “I mean, if he’s driving, we’ve got a good shot,” after which the first reporter said, “Yeah, if he’s driving with the front window open.”
The discussion between the two reporters then shifted into jokes about Trump theoretically riding in a convertible similar to the vehicle former President John F. Kennedy was in when he was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

“Yeah, or if it’s a convertible,” the second reporter suggested.
After the first reporter said he “wasn’t thinking about that,” the second reporter continued, “Yeah, like if he just pulls up…” However, before the second reporter could finish his statement, the first reporter asked, “Like JFK?” The reporter then added, “Maybe someone, just like they told JFK, ‘You know what you should do? You should take a convertible! It’s so nice out.’”
The conversation between the two media members regarding the assassination of JFK and a theoretical assassination attempt against Trump was met with laughter by other members of the media who were nearby.
According to The New York Post, Trump attended Tuesday’s D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals as his legal team argued that the former president is immune from charges stemming from both the Capitol Hill protest on Jan. 6, 2021, and charges pertaining to his questioning of the 2020 presidential election results.
