When the Democratic Party’s many affluent backers acknowledge their own folly, they should be commended.
The billionaire venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, who supported Democrats in the previous two presidential elections, has acknowledged his mistake and applauded the efforts of the past Trump administration.
“What those guys did was pretty incredible in hindsight,” Palihapitiya said last week.
These remarks were made on Friday’s “All-In Podcast” edition. One of the podcast’s four co-hosts, Palihapitiya discusses a variety of subjects including tech, economics, and other subjects.
He started the brief video by admitting that he had voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 after supporting Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.
The millionaire co-host, however, had nothing but praise for Trump.
“Every other president found a way to, frankly, make our situation a little bit worse, specifically around wars. He did not do that. And that is a huge accomplishment that I think needs to be acknowledged,” Palihapitiya said.
After that, the co-host identified as a “Democrat,” someone who had been “left homeless,” and someone who was “definitely in the center but probably leaning increasingly right.”
“Appreciation, despite the messenger, of the message of the Trump administration,” was his expression.
Palihapitiya described the Middle East peace initiatives, including the Abraham Accords, as “just a real example for the world.”
Co-host Jason Calacanis then cut in to emphasize what he was saying.
“When you look at it, you know, what they did, it’s a miracle,” he remarked.
Like his co-host, Calacanis portrayed himself as “homeless” and “no fan of Trump.”
However, if you examine what they accomplished with objectivity, “it was good work,” he stated, “It was great work.”
Then, Palihapitiya bemoaned the harm brought forth by “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
He remarked, “It’s now making us not recognize that good work and then embrace and extend it.”
“So much of the work that happened in that administration turns out to have been right,” Palihapitiya added.
Palihapitiya gave three examples: the wall along the border, long-term debt, and peace in the Middle East.
We have various reasons to be encouraged by his remarks.
To start with, Palihapitiya’s commendation extended beyond the Trump administration’s actions in the Middle East. He also brought up the border wall and Trump’s overall record on war.
Similarly, he refrained from endorsing candidates only to sabotage them later on with more generalized criticism of Trump. He criticized the Trump Derangement Syndrome that has afflicted so many individuals, using terms like “incredible.”
In the meantime, Calacanis, who did voice disapproval of the outgoing president on the podcast, spoke of the Trump administration’s Middle East peace endeavors as amazing.
Biden faces steep odds in 2024 if Palihapitiya is even a small portion of the Democratic-voting wealthy class.
More significantly, his remarks in that instance would signal a wider awakening among those who, up until now, had only proved themselves to be oblivious or at most unaware of the devastation Democrats have caused.
