When former President Donald Trump told Republicans in 2016 that he was running to “Make America Great Again” (MAGA), it breathed life back into the party’s base, who suffered economically and socially under eight years of the Obama administration.
Republican voters found the MAGA agenda refreshing because it said it was okay to love America, to want safe neighborhoods with excellent schools and low taxes, and to put America first on the global stage.
