Dems erupt over resignation of top prosecutors in case against Trump

Leftists have expressed shock and anger over the resignation without warning of two top prosecutors in the criminal investigation into Donald J. Trump, a blow to those who believe that the walls are closing in on Trump, whom they despise to the very depths of their beings.

It was reported by The New York Times that Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz abruptly resigned from the Manhattan district attorney’s office on Wednesday afternoon, a development that was attributed to Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg, who “was said to have expressed doubts about the case” relating to a probe involving the former president’s company, the Trump Organisation.

The Left was blindsided by resignations, and Ari Melber told his MSNBC viewers that yet another attempt to unseat Trump would likely end in the same futility as the others.

As the struggling host explained on Wednesday’s episode of “The Beat,” the case is in deep trouble, “the news tonight is the largest setback this case has ever seen for prosecuting Trump himself.”

“The two lead prosecutors are now OUT, abruptly resigning in a legal move that suggests this long-running case may end with a whimper, not a bang,” he added.

Melber went on to explain that “details are still emerging but all of the new signs we are seeing tonight suggest bad news for legal experts who saw this as the case for indicting Trump, and good news, for the former president.”

“The New York Times wrote the story late today, two of the acclaimed prosecutors that were tapped to build a case resigning after the new Manhattan DA pushed back on them with, quote, doubts about the case, meaning indicting Mr. Trump himself,” he stated.

“That new DA. is Alvin Bragg, he took over from the long time DA overseeing the case Cy Vance,” he said in reference to the partisan Democrat who abused his position to launch a witch hunt against Trump and his team.

“Bragg is a rookie facing a high pressure and unprecedented call over whether to indict a former president,” he stated. “Tonight’s news suggests on that question he has folded and the prosecutors may be leaving over it,” he said of the first black person to be elected to the powerful office.

The case has so far produced criminal charges against both the Trump Organization and its longtime Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg.

Weisselberg’s attorneys filed a court briefing on Tuesday asking to get his tax fraud charges thrown out, arguing that the executive was merely ‘collateral damage’ in New York prosecutors’ ‘yearslong pursuit of Mr. Weisselberg’s longtime boss, Donald J. Trump.’

Both Weisselberg and the Trump Organization have pleaded not guilty.

The longtime CFO is accused of evading taxes on $1.7 million in pay and benefits, a charge his legal team wants thrown out. They also argue that a charge over failing to pay local taxes on a luxury New York City apartment fall outside of the statute of limitations by three years or more.

The former president has not been charged nor accused of wrongdoing in neither Bragg nor James’ probes.

However he faced a massive legal setback earlier this month when a judge ruled that he and two of his adult children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, must sit for depositions in the Attorney General’s civil probe.

James’ office is looking into whether the company mislead lenders, investors and tax authorities on the value of Trump properties.

In another blow, top accounting firm Mazars USA, which has long handled the ex-president’s corporate and private tax returns, severed its ties with the Trump Organization in early February.

Court documents show the company washed its hands of a decades’ worth of Trump financial statements it prepared, claiming they could no longer be considered reliable.

Trump unleashed on James and Bragg over the matter on Sunday, accusing them of ‘frightening’ Mazars into cutting him out.

‘My long-term accounting firm didn’t leave me for any other reason than they were harassed, abused, and frightened by DA’s and AG’s that for years have been threatening them with indictment and ruination,’ he said through his Save America PAC.

‘They were “broken” by these Radical Left racist prosecutors, and couldn’t take it anymore.’

Many people expressed their surprise and disappointment on Twitter.

Molly Jong-Fast, a writer for The Atlantic and Vogue Magazine posted “This absolutely sucks.”

Elie Mystal, a correspondent for The Nation, a leftist debate site, wrote, “I’m really trying hard to understand Alvin Bragg here and… I don’t. I can’t make it make sense.”

Rob Reiner, known for his role in the TV sitcom All in the Family, tweeted, “The new Manhattan DA just let Trump shoot another victim on 5th Ave. Sure hope Merrick Garland has more balls than Aivin Bragg.”

Trump’s campaign for the presidency in 2024 seems increasingly likely, but those who hoped the New York-based investigation would derail his campaign will weep, but they can put their faith in Pelosi’s sham “insurrection” committee.
