Coverage of 2020 presidential campaigns is raising questions about the media’s influence on elections.

According to Politico, supporters of Senator Cory Booker are concerned about the alleged media bias against him compared to other Democrat hopefuls. Although Booker and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg share some of the same credentials, Buttigieg’s campaign has received more publicity. The exposure has placed Buttigieg near the top of recent polls despite his lack of policy proposals.

Booker is hoping to stand out in a crowded field of primary opponents with his record on the Senate as well as his anti-gun stance.

“When I’m President of the United States I’m taking a fight to this issue like folks have never seen before, because we are better than this as a country…it’s uniquely an American problem, no other country has this kind of carnage,” Booker stated in reference to gun violence.

A recent media study placed both Booker and Buttigieg at the bottom of the pack in terms of which Democrat candidates dominate media coverage. The Meltwater survey found former Vice President Joe Biden at the top, followed by Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.
