50 NH lawmakers endorse Desantis, 4 dual endorse Trump in 2024 presidential race

Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has been endorsed by 50 New Hampshire lawmakers ahead of his anticipated formal entry into the 2024 presidential race. In the coming weeks, the endorsement could become official after state Republican leaders in Iowa endorsed his bid last week.

DeSantis’ endorsement was made by Never Back Down, a super PAC that cited the governor’s tax cuts and growth record. Erin Perrine, the PAC spokeswoman, said that “New Hampshire’s leaders know his success should serve as a blueprint for our nation and are excited to support him because he can defeat Joe Biden in 2024 and put our country back on track.”

According to the PAC, four state lawmakers are also supporters of the Trump campaign. In an interview with NBC News, one lawmaker described DeSantis’ support as a dual endorsement.

“I’m endorsing both,” said Rep. Juliet Harvey-Bolia. “DeSantis has a lot of promise for the future, and Trump is great now.”

As the primary field for 2024 continues to form, former President Donald Trump and DeSantis are jockeying for position. It is not uncommon for Trump to post polls showing he has a wide lead over DeSantis. Over the weekend, both men were in Iowa, though Trump cancelled a planned rally due to a tornado warning.

Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina may launch a campaign soon, along with former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson.

Additionally, conservatives launched a super PAC, Committed to America, encouraging former Vice President Mike Pence to run. Scott Reed, who managed Bob Dole’s 1996 presidential campaign, and former Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas will co-chair the organization.
